OUR CREDIT POLICY

 

Our credit periods are four weeks long. A student may earn 2.5 credits in each class, each credit period, based on attendance, behavior, and productivity.  The chart below shows the impact of attendance and effort on a student’s ability to earn credit.

With this policy, a student may earn 10 credits a semester in each class, or 60 credits a semester if he/she has a full schedule.  Students also have the opportunity to earn extra credit in each class by doing contract work.

Restorative Justice

 

Reid practices the use of Restorative Justice in the classroom. Restorative Justice acknowledges that harm is caused in communities because needs are not being met. Restorative Justice uses dialogue and community agreements to bring people together in conversation. These conversations can happen to build community, to reach a certain collective goal, reintroduce community members, bring new community members in or to heal harm that has been caused in the community. Restorative Justice can also be used in the home to improve relationships, communication, a sense of respect.  The practice is an alternative to other immediate discipline choices such as suspension or expulsion. At Reid High School, Janay Watts with the California Conference for Equality and Justice, CCEJ, (CCEJ.org) is the Restorative Justice coordinator. Building Bridges Description

 

Building Bridges Camp is a three day program held by the California Conference for Equality and Justice, CCEJ, (CCEJ.org).  Youth engage in challenging activities and courageous dialogue to explore systems of oppression such as racism, classism, sexism, etc.  A safe space is created for youth to participate in honest dialogue about how oppression has impacted their lives and the lives of others. Youth strengthen their team building, communication and conflict resolution skills. Finally, participants learn how to utilise their individual and collective skills, talents, voices and power to effect change in their home and schools and communities.
